Taylor the Mexican wolf was created using acrylic paints on 12x12x1.5 gallery wrapped canvas and framed in a floater.

This piece was inspired by my dear friend Kris, a volunteer with USFWS and the Mexican Wolf species recovery team, who made me aware of these beautiful animals and the work being done to save the endangered wolves. Taylor was an actual Mexican wolf who repeatedly traveled north, across interstate 40, to Mount Taylor in New Mexico, defying federal regulations that restrict the endangered species to areas south of the Interstate. Despite being trapped and moved back to the Gila National Forest twice, he consistently returned, highlighting the inadequacy of man-made barriers in his quest for a mate. Unfortunately after his second relocation, he was heading back to his home in early 2026 when he was hit by a car while trying to cross I-40. He was simply seeking his basic wolf needs - suitable territory and mates. This piece reminds us to respect all non-human creatures and their needs just as we would respect our human friends.
